The First Sergeant Trims My Hair; REFORGER ‘84
I was the commander’s driver and company clerk for Bravo Company, 705th Maintenance Battalion, 5th Infantry Division (Mech). In 1986, the Army reorganized under Division ‘86, and we became B Company, 1st Forward Support Battalion.
These were all taken with the same camera, a Pentax Spotmatic KM with the standard f/1.2 lens. The first and last with Kodachrome 64 and the two B/W, probably Tri-X.

It really is. With that old Pentax, magic could happen. With DSLR, the magic nowadays in mostly conjured up in post and isn't as luscious.

Film is still widely available, nobody process Kodachrome anymore though but ektachrome 100 was re-released, Fuji still makes velvia and provia. For anything faster than iso100 you have to find cold stored ektachrome or go with color negative. Of course in the end you still end up messing with the final result on a computer. I've heard spotmatics are very nice cameras as well.

This one was taken several years later and was not with the Pentax, but with a Chinon CP-7m. You just can’t beat those Kodachrome chemicals. The book I’m reading in this picture is a crappy western pulp piece of crap; it was the only thing around to read. This was in or near Langeleben, West Germany, 1989 or 1990. This one has me all by my lonesome and the camera is propped up on something and uses the self-timer.

Spotmatic was a gem and very affordable for the quality of photos that it took.
